GMU "Armed Forces Day" Men's Basketball Game

Following is a letter from Douthard R. Butler, D.P.A, Associate Athletic Director, Community Relations at George Mason University.  Douthard Butler is a member of Post 177.  American Legion Post 177 is a co-sponsor of this event since we helped found GMU Armed Forces Day back in Feb 2004:

As the Associate Athletic Director for Community Relations, I would like to extend an invitation to you to support a truly unique event, the 3rd Annual George Mason University’s Armed Forces Day men’s basketball game.  This event is an opportunity for the community, George Mason University, and area businesses to come together and salute the men and women of the Armed Forces; past, present and future.

Your contribution and support of this event will assist the Military Science Department in raising money to support deserving cadets with room and board scholarships.  Your contribution will also allow service men and woman and their families throughout the National Capitol Region, the opportunity to enjoy an evening of basketball at no cost.

For every general admission ticket you elect to purchase, the Mason Athletic Department will donate five dollars to the Military Science Department’s University Foundation Account.  You may purchase the tickets and retain them for your own employees use, or you may purchase them as a donation.  If they are purchased for a donation, the tickets will be given free of charge to service men and woman and their families throughout the National Capitol Region.  Last years event was highly successful with over one thousand tickets donated to local military communities.

This year’s event is scheduled for the 4th of February at 7 o’clock in the evening at the Patriot Center on George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus.  In addition to the game, we will offer an evening full of military entertainment.  We are working with US Army Recruiting Command and the Military District of Washington, to develop a pre-game and halftime show that will both entertain, and honor the service men and women of this great nation.  Additionally, as a contributor that purchases 100 or more tickets to the event, you and your guests will be invited to attend a special pre-game reception in the Patriot Center’s Patriot Club.  There you will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of the University, selected military members and selected Cadets of the Patriot Battalion.

If you are interested in contributing to this extremely worthwhile event, please contact me 703-993-3251 or via e-mail at dbutle5@gmu.edu .  I sincerely hope that we can count on your support of this great event.  Again thank you for your time and I hope that you will support us in this truly unique, event in order to honor the men and women of our Armed Forces.

                                                                                        Sincerely,

Douthard R. Butler, D.P.A

Associate Athletic Director,
